Subject Composition
Using the classic ‘rule of thirds’ technique means imagining your screen as nine equal sections, and balancing your subject within this grid. The simplest example is the landscape shot below, where the sky is in the top third, the mountains in the middle third, and the ocean (closest to camera) in the bottom third. This will quickly become second nature, so have fun balancing your own pics – the results will surprise you!

Using Natural Light
Natural light (particularly during the ‘golden hours’ of sunrise and sunset) gives your photos a warmth and depth that look amazing when printed. However, bright midday light can create too many contrasting shadows and bright spots, so if you are outdoors when the sun is high, look for shaded areas for better results. And if you’re inside, place your subject near a window for soft, flattering light instead of relying on your phone’s flash. Thinking about lighting before you go ‘click’ will make all the difference to your end result.

Choose the lens to suit the scene
Most phone cameras come with multiple lenses: wide-angle, telephoto, or even macro. Use wide-angle for landscapes or group shots, telephoto for portraits and close-up details, and macro for fine textures like flowers or jewellery. Whenever possible, avoid using your digital zoom as this reduces image quality. Using the proper lens for the type of scene will keep your photos sharp and ready to Picify.

Fresh angles are interesting
You can turn an everyday scene into a masterpiece with simple artistic touches. Think about creating symmetry (using background buildings or reflections), or using straight lines (like fences or roads or tree lines) to lead the eye towards your subject. Or just experiment with different angles; low perspectives or unexpected tilts can give a twist to everyday scenes and make them truly worth displaying.

Off your phone and into your home
Taking professional-looking photos with your phone is easier than ever. Using light, lensing, composition, and a little flair will lift your everyday snapshots into frame-worthy art. Once you’ve captured that precious memory, Picify will transform it into gallery-quality wall-art that you can enjoy forever or gift to family and friends.
